Interesting story: I was in the Merrill Lynch building in New York City preparing for a meeting with some Capital Markets executives. While talking with my business partner, a woman at the coffee shop was eavesdropping. She happened to be recently laid off from CitiGroup. She was dressed very poorly and looked tried. She came up to me and said that she overheard my conversation and asked if she could give me her information. She proceeded to hand me a wrinkled resume.
It happens that Merrill Lynch needed me to find someone with this woman's qualifications. I could have presented her and tried to make an easy $30,000+ in fees. But, how could I present her if she could not present herself?
Always be prepared and look like you deserve the job.
